HOLIDAYS IN THE GAMBIA
Stroke a 5ft
Nile Crocodile
Kachikally Crocodile Pool in The
Gambia
It would be fair to
say that Health and Safety regulations aren’t exactly high on
the list of priorities in The Gambia.
The Kachikally Crocodile Pool is an absurd attraction. Essentially just
a fenced off pool full of some of the earth’s most dangerous
creatures, your only protection is an scarily hazy local legend about a
witch blessing the waters.
Still, who cares when you've got Charley, the world's friendliest
primeval killing machine? He's enormous (around 5ft long) and doesn't
seem to mind waves of tourists coming up to stroke him.
His big-toothed friends - and there are well over a hundred of them in
the luminous green pool that prowl unnervingly close - aren't quite as
passive, but they've not leapt out to kill anyone yet.
